Easton McGee had another strong outing for the Bowling Green but was denied his first win in over a month as South Bend edged the Hot Rods 2-1 Saturday at Bowling Green Ballpark.
McGee allowed one run on thee hits while walking two and striking out five in six innings. It was the 12th time McGee went at least six innings for the Hots Rods this year and notched his eighth quality start.
The former Hopkinsville Tiger got the no-decision and hasn’t picked up a win since July 14. He is 7-5 on the season with a 3.59 ERA. He already has pitched a career-high 120 innings and has 92 strikeouts against just 25 walks. McGee has allowed just eight earned runs in his last four starts that covers 24 innings.
Bowling Green is 37-24 in the second half of the season and own a two-game lead over South Bend in the Midwest League standings. The Hot Rods need to win the division or finish second to assure themselves a trip to the postseason.
