A couple of days of the 2019 season are in the book. No big surprises yet. UHA and Caldwell County look to be what we expected. Henderson lost to Apollo, but there is no big shame in that one. Be keeping an eye on Webster County, as it appears things could be building in Dixon towards a stronger volleyball future. Otherwise, we have a big weekend coming up, which could shake things up in the Super 7 come next week.
– University Heights (1-0) – The Lady Blazers took care of business in their opener, going on the road and coming away with a straight set win over Hopkins Central. A trip to Owensboro this weekend for the Apollo Summer Slam should give us a good early season read on the Lady Blazers.
– Caldwell County (2-0) – The Lady Tigers have sweeps over Livingston Central and Christian County to open the season, both without Abby Griggs on the floor. Olivia Mitchell is giving indication she could be best in the region. A big road trip to Louisville this weekend for Caldwell County.
– Henderson County (0-1) – The Lady Colonels dropped their opener to Apollo, but they will be far from the only team to lose to the high powered E-Gals this season. The northern Lady Colonels are one of the many teams headed to Owensboro this weekend for Apollo’s Summer Slam.
– Webster County (1-0) – The Lady Trojans easily handled Trigg County in their opener, winning in straight sets. Hard to gauge this team just yet, but it is another case of what happens at Apollo this weekend will tell us a great deal about a good number of teams in the region.
– Madisonville (1-1) – The Lady Maroons swept Union County, but had to fight tooth and nail for the first two sets. Then, they were on the other side of a sweep by Daviess County, who finished under .500 during the 2018 season. Madisonville and Webster will square off this weekend at Apollo.
– Crittenden County (2-0) – The Lady Rockets picked up wins over Mayfield and Murray to start the season. Will get a better feel for this team Thursday night as they take on Madisonville. Otherwise, their first big test looks like it will be UHA in the All A regional semifinals.
– Hopkinsville (0-0) – The Lady Tigers have yet to open the season. But, guess where they are headed this weekend to kick things off. Another team that we will get a better grip on after the Summer Slam.
