Caldwell County’s guys put a late scare into Grayson County on Tuesday before the visiting Cougars got out of Princeton with a 4-3 victory.

Blake Vivrette tallied a pair of late goals — the last on a penalty kick in the 69th minute — to cut a 4-1 deficit to just a single goal.

However, Caldwell (0-2) could never punch in a tying goal against Grayson (3-1).

The Cougars struck early when Bahaa Masri found the net in the 5th minute.

Caldwell countered on Grayden Miller’s tally to tie things.

However, Grayson went back in front late in the first half, getting the first of two goals from Wyatt Schultz to take a 2-1 lead to the break.

Schultz scored his second goal early in the second half.

Grayson went up 4-1 went goalkeeper Brady Whobrey scored on a PK for the senior-laded Cougars.

But Caldwell showed life when Vivrette scored his first goal off a long set piece from Ethan Weatherspoon.

The Tigers continued to attack the offensive end after Vivrette’s second goal made it 4-3, but just couldn’t draw even.

Each side recorded 11 shots in the contest.

Josh Hagan was strong in the Caldwell net, recording nine saves to keep the Tigers in the game.

Caldwell returns to action on Saturday with a makeup date against Murray High School. Only a varsity game will be played, beginning at 6 p.m. at Butler Stadium.
