Hannah Sumner got off to a strong start Monday at the Greenwood Lady Gator Invitational at the Bowling Green Country Club. She was 3-over par after nine holes but saw her putter abandon her on the final nine holes.
The Christian County senior finished with a round of 87, which tied her for 35th place in a first-rate field that took advantage of the opportunity to play a round on the same course where the state golf tournament will be held in October.
Sumner shot a 43 on the front nine and a 44 on the back nine.
Defending state champion Laney Frye of Lexington Catholic won the 16-team event with an even-par round of 72. Frye tied with her teammate Delia Gibbs and won in a scorecard playoff.
