
Lyon County Post 68 split a Saturday afternoon doubleheader in Eddyville against Evansville Funkhouser Post 8.
Post 68 made a three-run first inning stand up in a 3-2 win in the opener. But Funkhouser came back to claim game two 10-3.
The gives Lyon County an 11-5-1 mark.
Colin Price’s two-run home run highlighted Post 68’s opening frame in game one of the twinbill.
Cameron Head went the distance on the mound, allowing two earned runs on five base hits. He struck out two and did not walk a batter.
Funkhouser scored both of its runs in the sixth to get within 3-2 before Lyon held on for the win.
Post 68 picked up the victory despite recording just three base hits in the contest. Besides Price’s homer, Drew Cooper and Colbe Crim each singled.
Lyon County grabbed an early 2-0 lead in the second half. However, Funkhouser put up five runs in the fifth and four more in the sixth to earn the split.
Gabe Board was 2-for-3 with an RBI for Post 68 in that game.
On Friday, Lyon County picked up a win and a tie in action at Gallatin (Tenn.) Post 17.
Cameron Dean was 3-for-3 with an RBI as Post 68 won the opener 5-1.
Cade Duncan was the winning pitcher, going 6.2 innings and allowed just one unearned run on six hits. He fanned 12 and did not issue a free pass.
The two squads played to a 4-4 tie in the second game.
Brady Darnall was 2-for-2 and knocked in a run while Duncan doubled for Lyon County.
Post 68 will host the American Legion state tournament at Lee S. Jones Park in Eddyville coming up July 23-27. Lyon will also host the Junior Legion State Tournament, which is set for next week.
