Former Christian County basketball coach Frankie Smith is on the move again, this time leaving the Commonwealth for the Sunshine State.
Smith announced on social media this week that he had been hired as the head boys’ basketball coach at Ridge Community High School near Orlando. The school has nearly 2,700 students in grades 9-12.
Smith was the coach at Bell County the past two seasons, putting together a 35-23 record. The Bobcats failed to advance past the first round of the district tournament each season.
In two years at the helm of Christian County from 2015-17, Smith’s record was 56-11 which included a district and region title in 2016. Smith won 125 games and a state title at Tug Valley, West Virginia from 1993-99.
He also coached in college at Miami, Ohio as an assistant and later a head coach at Saginaw Valley State, Michigan. He began coaching high school basketball in Kentucky at Sheldon Clark in 2012. In three seasons, the Cardinals were 63-24 with a trip to the region title game.
