
Gabe Board was 3-for-4 with a home run, and Lyon County American Legion Post 68 used a five-run sixth inning to rally for a 9-5 victory at Rockport (Ill.) Post 254 in baseball action Thursday night.
The former Lyon County High School standout homered to lead off the fifth inning for Post 68. Board then had an RBI double as part of Lyon County’s big sixth inning and finished the game with three runs batted in.
Rockport had taken a 5-4 lead with three runs in the bottom of the fifth inning. But Lyon countered quickly.
Cade Duncan singled to lead off the sixth and later came in on an error to tie the game. Drew Cooper followed with an RBI triple to center, which scored Kevin Brooks who had reached on a single.
Board’s RBI double made it 7-5. Davis Corbett doubled home two more runs in the frame to stretch the margin to 9-5.
Duncan finished 2-for-3 at the plate while Cooper was 2-for-5.
Cameron Head, the third of four Post 68 pitchers, picked up the victory. He blanked Rockport for two innings on just one base hit while striking out two and walking one.
Duncan pitched a scoreless seventh, striking out two, to nail down the victory as Lyon County improved to 5-2 on the season.
Post 68 is scheduled to visit Evansville Pate Post 265 Friday night. Lyon County will host Newburg, Ind., Sunday afternoon in Eddyville.
