Caldwell County High School rising junior Tripp Branch pulled off a rare double play in the 2018-19 sports season.
Branch was named First-Team Academic All-State in not just one sport, but two.
Branch earned that distinction in both football and basketball.
Branch was a punter on the gridiron for a Caldwell football team that went 8-4 before falling to LaRue County in the second round of the Class 3A playoffs. He averaged 31.4 yards per kick, with a long punt of 50 yards.
On the hardwood, Branch averaged 8.1 points a game for the Tigers, who went 19-11 and reached the semifinals of the 2nd Region tournament. He shot 43 percent from 3-point range and made 82.5 percent of his free throw attempts.
