Drew Cooper homered and drove in six runs as Lyon County American Legion Post 68 opened play in the annual Chappel Allen Classic with as 12-2 win over Evansville Pate Post 265 Thursday.
Cooper, a Graves County graduate, homered in the sixth inning to give the defending Kentucky American Legion champions a walk-off win via the mercy rule.
Cooper, Gabe Board, and Davis Corbett all had two hits in the contest as Post 68 rapped out 11 hits in the game.
Carlisle County’s Davin McGee got the pitching win, allowing three hits and two runs in five innings of work.
Post 68 (2-1) returns to action in the Chappel Allen Invitational Saturday against Oldham County Post 39 at 6pm. The Post 68 junior team plays Oldham County Post 39 Friday night and again Saturday at 10am.
The annual event will continue through Sunday at Lee S. Jones Park in Eddyville.
