Trigg County softball coach Toree McMain has announced her resignation after five seasons at the helm of the Lady Wildcat program. She made the announcement at the team’s postseason banquet Friday.

McMain gave birth to her first child on May 13 and was back coaching the Lady Wildcats in the district tournament the following week. She also coached Trigg County in their region tournament opener Monday.

“I’m not taking a coaching job anywhere else,” she said. “I’m just going to spend time with Brooks (her son) and spend time being a mom.”

McMain is married to Trigg County Track and Field Coach Matt McMain.

Trigg County had won 93 games in the 20 years prior to McMain taking over as coach in 2015. The Lady Wildcats were 11-16 in her first season as coach, which was the most wins for the program in 11 years.

They set a school record for wins in the fast-pitch era with 17 in 2016, which included a win over Crittenden County in the district tournament and their first trip to the region tournament.

The 2018 team established another school record for wins with 22 and made another trip to the region tournament.

Playing against a beefed-up schedule in 2019 with a senior-laden team, Trigg County went 17-17. They beat four teams – Graves County, Muhlenberg County, Lyon County, and Daviess County – that played in their respective region championship games.

McMain’s five-year record at Trigg County was 82-81.

Despite the loss of six seniors that accounted for 798 games and 584 hits in their careers, Trigg County is scheduled to return six defensive starters in 2020.

McMain said she would like to be active in the search for her replacement and hasn’t ruled an eventual return to coaching.

“I will be back someday. I love it too much,” she said.
