
University Heights Academy’s Kate Bennett won a match at the region tennis tournament Monday for the second straight year, setting the foundation for future success in the event.
The Lady Blazer eighth grader landed in the play-in round for the second straight year and won her opening match like she did last year. Bennett beat Union County’s Maggie White 6-0, 6-0 before falling to No. 5 seed Marissa Austin of Webster County 6-0, 6-1.
Mitali Patel also picked up a first-round win, defeating Henderson County’s Nora St. Pierre 6-2, 6-2. She lost in the second round to Hopkinsville’s Riley Fort 6-0, 6-1.
In doubles play, Hannah Jane Holland and Zipporah Brechwald dropped their opening match to Union County’s Jariah McDaniels and Lilly Shirel 6-3, 7-5.
