The Hopkinsville softball team racked-up ten hits Tuesday night at Livingston Central, but four errors, including one to allow the winning run in the bottom of the eighth, sent the Lady Tigers to a 5-4 loss to the Lady Cardinals.
The loss is Hoptown’s second in three outings to fall to 11-21 overall, while the Lady Cardinals improve to 12-1 after their second win in three games.
Livingston Central took a 1-0 lead in the first and neither team scored again until the Lady Cardinals doubled their advantage in the bottom of the fifth on an RBI triple by Madison Bolte. The Lady Tigers finally broke through to tie the game in the top of the sixth after an RBI double by Morgan Hodge, followed by a single by Kaitlyn Kaetzel to allow Hodge to score.
The Lady Tigers took their first lead on an RBI single by Nadia Clayton in the top of the seventh, but couldn’t close the door in the bottom of the inning. After Lauren Wring singled for the Lady Cardinals, Madeline Norton came through with a two-out RBI single to extend the game.
Kaetzel singled-in a run to put the Lady Tigers on top in the eighth, but Livingston’s Bella Chittenden singled on a bunt to put runners on first and third in the bottom of the inning. After the tying run came home on a steal, Victoria Joiner reached on an error to allow the winning run to score.
Marley Hancock took the loss for Hoptown, going the distance while allowing three earned runs on six hits with five walks and a strikeout. Hodge and Kaetzel each finished 3-4 at the plate, followed by Taiya Straight with two hits.
Sydney Lasher worked overtime for the win, pitching all eight innings while yielding three earned runs on ten hits with eleven strikeouts.
