After losing the previous three three meetings, the Fort Campbell softball team appeared positioned to give visiting Fort Knox a run for the “Sisters in Arms” trophy on Saturday, but a tough call cut short a sixth-inning rally and the Lady Eagles erupted for seven runs in the top of the seventh to hold off the Lady Falcons 13-7.

Fort Campbell played well enough to win on Saturday, but instead an eighth-straight loss sends it to 2-19 on the year with a visit from Hopkinsville scheduled for Monday.  Fort Knox has now won two of its last three to improve to 3-10 overall.

Down 2-0 in the bottom of the third, the Lady Falcons fought back with two runs to tie the game, but the Lady Eagles answered with four runs in their next at-bat, including an RBI triple by Isabelle Loiselle

Cadence Suding led off the bottom of the sixth with a triple, before coming home on an error to pull the Lady Falcons to within two at 6-4.  With two outs and runners on second and third, Emma Kaack hit a sharp line drive that Fort Knox first-baseman Cyla Reed couldn’t hold onto.  Juli Curney came home, but Kaack was called out on a close play at first to end the inning and maintain the two-run deficit.

The Lady Eagles took full advantage, putting the game away with seven runs in their half of the seventh, although Fort Campbell did post three runs in its final at-bat on RBI doubles by Suding and Danielle Houston for the final 13-7 score.

Houston took the loss for the Lady Falcons, going the distance while allowing thirteen runs on thirteen hits with seven walks and three strikeouts.  She also led the way at the plate with three hits, followed by Suding and Angel Manalang with two hits each.

Loiselle pitched all seven innings to earn the win for Fort Knox, allowing seven runs on twelve hits with three walks and eleven strikeouts.  Carolina Vega finished 4-4 at the plate with a run driven-in.
