University Heights has turned to a well known face in basketball in Christian County for its next girls basketball coach. UHA Athletic Director Grant Shouse announced Friday afternoon that current girls assistant coach Derrick Hickman has been selected to lead the Lady Blazer program.
Hickman is a name quite familiar to girls basketball in the community. He served as a long time assistant coach at Christian County under Coach Don Dillard. Hickman also has spent two stints with the University Heights Girls Basketball program as an assistant coach under long time, and recently retired Head Coach Taylor Sparks.
Hickman’s first time as an assistant with the Lady Blazers ran from 2010 to 2015, and helped produce an 8th District three peat in 2013, 2014, and 2015, as well as three All A Region titles in 2012, 2014, and 2015.
After a few seasons with the Christian County boys program as an assistant, Hickman returned to UHA. this past season and again assisted with a Lady Blazer All A Region title.
