Caldwell County High School senior Barett Schultz signing to play college soccer at Concord University may have been preordained.
The Shultz family noted that when they visited the Athens, West Virginia, school that the soccer coach is named Steve Barrett (sharing a name with the player) and that the school’s stadium is located on Beckett Hill Road. Beckett is Barett’s older brother.
Barett Schultz, a standout goalkeeper for the Tigers, signed during a ceremony Wednesday in the Fine Arts Theatre at CCHS.
He is a four-time all-district performer at Caldwell County and a two-time all-region selection.
Schultz was also a kicker on the Caldwell football team.
Concord is an NCAA Div. II school located in Athens, West Virginia. The Mountain Lions compete in the Mountain East Conference.
Concord went 5-11-1 last fall. The Mountain Lions are expected to return two keepers, with Schultz looking to compete for playing time quickly.
