Christian County got five shutout innings from Wyatt Stevenson and timely hits from Stevenson and Bryson Brown on the way to a 3-1 victory Tuesday night over hosts Muhlenberg County. The Colonels have won four of five to move to 10-5 heading into this weekend’s Louisville Invitational Tournament.
Austin Fields led off the top of the fifth with a single, later coming home on a Mustang error to give the Colonels the lead. Stevenson doubled the margin with a sacrifice fly to center that allowed Joshua Snorton to score.
The Colonels made it 3-0 in the top of the sixth on an RBI single by Bryson Brown. Layton Stallons relieved Stevenson on the mound in the bottom of the inning, striking-out two of the first three batters he faced before Muhlenberg’s Carson McKinney hit an RBI double to get the Mustangs on the board.
Stallons yielded a one-out single in the bottom of the seventh, before issuing a two-out walk to put the tying run on base. But he closed-out the victory when he struck out Muhlenberg’s Dalton Nunley looking for the final out.
Stevenson got the win, working five scoreless innings with 3 hits, a walk and 5 strikeouts.
Isaac Rose took the loss for the Mustangs, lasting 5.0 innings while allowing 2 unearned runs on 3 hits, with 3 walks and 5 strikeouts.
