The Christian County Colonels have now officially locked up the top seed in the 8th District baseball tournament. The Colonels traveled across North Drive Monday afternoon and took care of University Heights 5-1 on the strength of a great effort by Eric Silvy.

Christian County starter Eric Silvy, who was spectacular on the mound, helped his own cause by driving in all the runs he would need with a two run double in the 2nd inning to put the Colonels in the early lead at 2-0. He then proceeded to dominate the game on the mound, giving up just one hit over six innings of work, while striking out nine, and walking only one.

Keith Stallons came in to close out the game in the bottom of the 7th inning.

After getting the early 2-0 lead, the Colonels extended the lead to 3-0 in the top of the third. Lane Diuguid led off the inning with a double, and then later scored on a dropped third strike. The Colonels then effectively put the game away with two more runs in the top of the 6th. An RBI single from Eric Silvy, followed by an RBI double from Houston George pushed the lead out to 5-0.

UHA would plate their only run of the game in the bottom of the seventh when the Colonels committed an error, after two Blazers had reached base on hits.

Eric Silvy was big at the plate as well as on the mound, going 2-4, with a double and two RBIs. Houston George was 1-3, with a double, and an RBI. Bryson Brown was also 1-3, with an RBI.

Ian Tyler went 2-3 in the game for the Blazers.

Drew McGowan took the loss for UHA, going 5 2/3, giving up five runs, on six hits, striking out ten, while walking five.

The Colonels improved to 5-0 in the district, while UHA fell to 2-3. Christian County has already swept Hopkinsville in district play, while the Fort Campbell Falcons have yet to pick up an 8th District win.

Christian County returns to action Tuesday at Muhlenberg County, while UHA hits the road to Union County.
