We said last week that there could be some movement this week in the Super 7, and such is the case. For the 3rd week in a row, we have a different team holding down the #1 spot, and a return to the list in the #7 spot. Webster County had one of the best weeks of an area team so far this season. More big games ahead could mean more changes over the next couple of weeks, or it could be that teams solidify their status as we continue to approach district tournament time.
Webster County (16-3) – Now this would be what you call an impressive week. Wins over Henderson County, Madisonville, McCracken County, and Christian County in a span of three days. With the E-town tourney canceled, mark April 25 down on your calendar. That is the day for round two of their 6th District battle with Henderson County, this time on the road.
Christian County (15-3) – The Lady Colonels have won six of their last seven, the only loss being a tough two run decision to Webster County. Those two teams were supposed to have met again this weekend, but the weather had other plans. That game now may not happen until at least the semifinal round of the 2nd Region tournament.
Henderson County (15-2) – Their game with Webster County was scoreless deep into the game, before the Lady Trojans came up with the three runs that decided the game. The northern Lady Colonels are about to get tested. In addition to Webster County next week, they have games coming up with Caldwell County and Christian County, plus an appearance in the Owensboro Catholic tournament.
Madisonville (7-7) – For the first time in a long time, it appears the Lady Maroons are struggling. They have lost seven of their last nine and something just feels a little off at this point. They still have time to get back on stride, but there are some big tests ahead. In the near future, there are games with Caldwell County, Marshall County, Webster County, and McCracken County.
Lyon County (13-7) – The Lady Lyons are closing in on breaking into the top four. Since the calendar flipped over to April, Lyon County is 10-1, and the only loss was in a tournament in Tennessee, where they did not get to play a full game due to time limit restrictions for the event, and they lost 3-2. Will be fun to see how this team fares at the All A state tournament next weekend.
Caldwell County (7-9) – The Lady Tigers may have finally hit their stride. A good weekend last week at the Slugfest may have been the spark for last season’s regional runnerup. Some games to keep you eye on over the next few weeks are their matchups against, Madisonville, Henderson County, and Lyon County. This team still has the ability to make another run if they keep making strides.
Trigg County (9-11) – The Lady Wildcats move back into the Super 7 this week, coming off a good effort at the Marshall County Slugfest. They picked up wins over Daviess County, Muhlenberg County, and Graves County. They get a big one coming up on April 29, when they host Christian County. The game last year in Cadiz went into extras.
