The Hopkinsville Tigers had the perfect 1-2 combination going Monday evening. The Tigers got a great five innings from starting pitcher Zach Caudill and the offense got a big second inning, as Hopkinsville got past Daviess County by a score of 6-3.
Caudill went five innings for the Tigers, striking out ten batters and walking none. He gave up thee earned runs on eight hits, allowing one run in the third inning and two in the fifth. Jacob Dilday was also solid in relief, going two innings, giving up no runs on no hits, striking out two, and walking two.
The Tigers gave Caudill early run support, plating five runs in the 2nd inning. Preston Chaudoin drove in the first run by drawing a bases loaded walk. Ryan Myers reached base on an error, with two runs scoring on the play. Caleb Bapp singled to drive in Chaudoin. The inning capped off with an RBI single from Layne Jorgensen.
Bapp would also drive in an insurance run in the bottom of the 4th inning with a sacrifice fly, scoring Preston Chaudoin to make it a 6-1 lead.
The Panthers cut the lead to 6-3 in the top of the 5th, but Hopkinsville was able to close the door the rest of the way.
Caleb Bapp was 1-3 with two RBIs. Preston Chaudoin was 1-2 in the game, with an RBI, and two runs scored. Layne Jorgensen ended up 1-3, with an RBI.
