The Trigg County baseball team fell victim to a walk-off in its opening game of the Dinger Wood Bat Classic in Mayfield, losing 3-2 to Windsor, MO on Friday night. The loss snaps a two-game win streak for the Wildcats, leaving them at 7-5 on the year.
Trailing 1-0 in the top of the fifth, the Wildcats took the lead on an RBI single by Anthony Mercado that brought home Arlon Butts and Andrew Williamson.
After a Windsor error and a walk to Williamson put Wildcats on first and second in the top of the seventh, the next three Trigg batters struck-out to end the threat.
Butts worked six innings on the mound for Trigg, allowing 3 runs, only one earned, on 7 hits, while striking-out seven. But after starting the seventh with a single and a walk on either side of a Wildcat error, he gave way to Colton Sumner.
Sumner was greeted with a sacrifice fly to right field to tie the game, before seeing his second pitch doubled to left field to bring home the winning run.
The Wildcats return to Mayfield on Saturday to face St. Mary at 10 AM and Whitehaven, TN later in the afternoon.
