Lyon County junior Allye Culp threw five shutout innings and the Lady Lyons turned 6 hits into 10-run win in the championship game of the 2nd Region All-A tournament at UHA Tuesday night. The Lady Lyons claim the title for the first time since 2016, improving to 11-7 overall and punching their ticket to the All-A state tournament. The Lady Rockets had won six of seven since a 19-7 loss to Lyon County a couple of weeks ago, and now stand at 8-6 on the year.
After a scoreless first inning, the Lady Lyons broke through in the bottom of the second when Rachel Coursey reached on an error to allow a run to score, followed by a double by Gracen Wynn to bring in Coursey.
Sydney Melton followed with an RBI double, with the Lady Lyons adding a fourth run when Calista Collins grounded out to score Melton.
That would be all Culp would need, as she scattered 3 hits and struck-out 6 over five innings. Lyon added 2 runs on a Lady Rocket error in the third, a run in the fourth, and 2 in the fifth, capped-off by a game-ending RBI single by Collins.
Collins was the only Lady Lyon with 2 hits, followed by Melton and Wynn with a hit and an RBI each.
Destiny Knight took the loss for Crittenden, lasting two innings while giving up 7 runs, 5 earned, on only 2 hits, with three walks. Ashlyn Hicks pitched the fourth and fifth, allowing an earned run on 4 hits.
