Last May, when the Christian County Lady Colonels went on the road and beat the Madisonville Lady Maroons, it ended a five game losing streak to the Lady Maroons for the Lady Colonels. Now, Christian County is the team with the winning streak.
The Lady Colonels roughed up Madisonville’s Courtney Patterson for five runs in the first two innings, while Hannah Sumner was more than solid in the circle, as Christian County picked up an impressive 7-2 win over the Lady Maroons Thursday night on Lady Colonel Field.
Sumner gave up only two runs over seven innings of work, none of the runs were earned. Both runs came in the 7th inning when the Lady Colonels had things well in hand with a 7-0 lead. Sumner only allowed Madisonville four hits in the game. She struck out three, while walking only one.
At the plate, Christian County struck early, with two runs in the first and three more in the 3rd, to take am early 5-0 lead. The big hits in the first inning were an RBI double from Tyler Shemwell and an RBI single from Hope Jones.
In the second inning, Emmy Blane drove in a run with a bunt single. Christian County added two more runs off a Madisonville error.
Despite the wind blowing in from centerfield, the Lady Colonels turned to the long ball to add insurance runs. Tyler Shemwell carried one out of the park to right in the bottom of the 4th. Reni Shemwell hit one to right as well, her coming in the bottom of the 5th inning to make it 7-0.
For the game, Tyler Shemwell was 2-3, with a home run, a double, two RBIs, and two runs scored. Reni Shemwell was 1-3, with a home run, an RBI, and a run scored. Pickle Winkler was 2-4, with two runs scored.
The win was the 4th in a row over the Lady Maroons for Christian County. The Lady Colonels won both regular season meetings last year, and then beat the Lady Maroons in the regional semifinals.
