Frankie Thomas was a member of some of the first boys’ soccer teams at University Heights Academy in the late 1990s. Fast forward two decades, and he is ready to lead the Blazer program.
Thomas takes over for Mike Smith, who stepped down in January after eight seasons. The Blazers were 76-74-19 under Smith and won a region title in 2011. Thomas has no high school coaching experience, although he has coached travel soccer locally for five years. Despite that, he says he is ready for the challenge of leading the Blazers.
UHA was 12-6-1 last year and graduated six seniors. However, they have a solid nucleus of young players returning that should bode well for the future of the program.
