After struggling in a loss to Lyon County earlier in the week, a pair of the younger pitchers for the Christian County Lady Colonels rebounded in fine fashion Saturday afternoon. Riley Hancock and Gracie Harned combined to limit Massac County to just one run, as the Lady Colonels won for the second time of the day, defeating the Lady Patriots 8-1 at Lady Colonel Field.
Hancock started the game and went four innings, giving up no runs and just three hits. Hancock also did not walk any of the batters she faced. Harned finishe out the game, giving up just one run on five hits, while striking out three, and walking none. Massac County’s run did not come until the top of the 7th inning when the Lady Colonels were already up 8-0.
Christian County got to work offensively right away in the game. Pickle Winkler led off with double and then scored on a single by Emmy Blane. Blane would later score on a ground out by Hope Jones to make it 2-0 after one.
The Lady Colonels extended the lead in the bottom of the fourth. Reni Shemwell crushed a line drive homer to left center to make it 3-0. Tenley Gilbert then hit a sacrifice fly to drive in K. Crick and move the lead out to 4-0.
Christian County blew the game open with four runs in the bottom of the 6th inning. The big hit in the inning was a three run home run by Tyler Shemwell, her second home run of the day.
Tyler Shemwell ended up 2-3, with a home run, 3 RBIs, and a run scored. Reni Shemwell was 1-3, with a home run, an RBI, and a run scored. Macy Lancaster and Pickle Winkler were each 2-3, with a run scored.
