Trigg County split their final two games of the Warren County Invitational Saturday, bringing their record for the day two event to 2-2.

The Wildcats got off to a fast start in the opener against Barren County, scoring four runs in the first inning on their way to a 13-8 win at Nick Denes Field on the campus of Western Kentucky University.

Trigg tacked on six runs in the fourth inning and two more in the fifth to hold off the Trojans. Arlon Butts had a two-run double in the first inning and added another two-run double in the sixth as part of a five RBI afternoon. Andrew Williamson drove in three runs with a pair of hits, and Andrew Syester had three hits. Riley Stallons and Hayden Cunningham also had two hits as part of the 12-hit Wildcat attack.

Butts got the win in relief of Bryce Cunningham, allowing two runs and two hits in 3.2 innings of work.

In the nightcap, Trigg County outhit Greenwood 12-11 but lost the game 13-3 in six innings. The formula for the Gator win was simple. They scored a run in the first on two Trigg errors, a walk and a sacrifice.

The Gators scored in the second on a hit batter, stolen base, and single. Two singles and a sacrifice plated their third run in as many innings for a 3-1 lead.

They broke the game open in the fourth inning with six runs, most of them coming after two outs.

Trigg County got an RBI single from Jacob Kent in the first inning, a Jude Hunter RBI single in the fourth inning, and a fielder’s choice RBI from Trevor Cortner in the sixth inning.

Kent finished the day with three hits, including a triple, while Andrew Williamson had a double as part of a two-hit day.

After getting the win in the opener, Butts took the loss in the second game although eight of the 13 runs Trigg allowed were unearned.

Trigg County (6-5) will host Caldwell County Monday at the Complex.
