The Lyon County Lady Lyons continued their stretch of good play Saturday afternoon in the Brentwood Invitational. The Lady Lyons won their fifth game in a row, defeating Livington Academy 7-3, and then saw their winning streak come to an end, losing a tough 3-2 decision to Shelbyville Central. Both games were abbreviated due to tournament time limit restrictions.
Against Livingston Academy, the Lady Lyons used a five run third inning to carry them to a 7-3 three inning win.
After falling behind 1-0 in the top of the first, Lyon County quickly evened things out in the bottom of the inning. Sydney Melton led off the inning with a double and then scored on a sacrifice fly from Calista Collins to make it 1-1.
The Lady Lyons then took the lead in the bottom of the second inning. Rachel Coursey led off the inning with a walk. She would later score on a steal of home to put Lyon County up 2-1.
Livingston Academy used a couple of hits and a Lyon County error to take the lead back at 3-2 going into the bottom of the 3rd inning.
Lyon County loaded the bases in the bottom of the 3rd as the first three batters reached base on a hit batter, a single, and a walk. Rachel Coursey hit a double to right field, after Calista Collins scored on a steal of home, to give Lyon County a 5-3 lead. Nelli Walker drove in another run with a double, and then scored on a sacrifice fly by Sydney Melton to end the scoring at 7-3. The time limit ended the game before the Lady Lyons were retired in the bottom of the 3rd.
Rachel Coursey was 1-1, with a double, 2 RBIs, and two runs scored. Nelli Walker was 1-1, with a double, an RBI, and a run scored.
Kaelyn Conger and Allye Culp combined to limit Livingston Academy to three runs, two of them earned, on four hits, striking out three, and walking just one.
In the second game of the day Saturday, Shelbyville Central scored a run in the top of the 4th inning to break a 2-2 tie and then held on for the 3-2 win.
Shelbyville Central took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first. The Lady Lyons came right back in the bottom of the inning to tie the game on an RBI single from Kaelyn Conger.
Central took the lead back with a run in the top of the 3rd inning. Calista Collins drilled a solo shot to left field in the bottom of the evening to even things right back up at 2-2 going into the fourth inning.
Two Lyon County errors in the top of the 4th inning allowed Shelbyville Central to scored what proved to be the winning run and take a 3-2 lead. Lyon County then went down in order in the bottom of the 4th inning, with the time limit then ending the game.
Calista Collins was 1-2 in the game, with a home run, an RBI, and a run scored. Kaelyn Conger went 1-2, with an RBI.
Allye Culp and Kaelyn Conger combined to allow three runs, on three hits, striking out two, and walking one.
