Little things continue to be a thorn in the side of the Trigg County Lady Wildcat softball team, who dropped a 3-2 walk-off decision to Harrison County Monday afternoon in the Cal Ripken Experience in Pigeon Forge, Tenn.

The mistakes don’t come in bulk for the Lady Wildcats, but as they did in their loss to East Jessamine earlier in the day, they come at the wrong time.

For the second time on the day, the Lady Wildcats jumped out to an early lead. In the third inning, Logan Darnall reached on an error, and Phelan Dossett reached first base on a dropped third strike.

Darnall would score on a passed ball, and Dossett scored on an Alyssa Southwood single for a 2-0 lead.

Hannah Colbert pitched in and out of trouble until the fifth inning when Harrison County broke through. A single and walk put runners at first and second base. A passed ball moved them over 60 feet, and Hannah DeLong scored them both on a shallow single to center field.

Harrison County’s Jima Hill led off the home half of the seventh inning with a double to deep center field. Trigg intentionally walked Haleigh Jones, who had three hits on the day, to set up a force play, but a hit batter and sacrifice fly scored the winning win.

Darnall had two of Trigg County’s five hits – all five hits going for singles.

Trigg County struck out 13 times – five of them looking – and didn’t reach base via a walk in the contest.

Trigg County (4-7) returns to action with two games Tuesday. The Lady Wildcats play Montgomery County (4-4) at 9am and Madison Southern (7-2) at 11.
