The Christian County Lady Colonels finished up a busy Saturday afternoon by picking up their fifth win in a row to start the 2019 season. The Lady Colonels used a strong finish to take down the Owensboro Catholic Lady Aces 6-2 at Christian County High School. The win was the second of the day for the Lady Colonels, who earlier in the afternoon turned back Caldwell County 14-3.
The Lady Aces took an early 1-0 lead when Hannah Carter led off the top of the 2nd inning with a long home run.
Christian County came back in the bottom of the 3rd inning and took their first lead of the game without the benefit of a hit. The Lady Colonels took full advantage of a Lady Aces error, two walks, and a hit batter to go up 2-1.
Owensboro Catholic got an RBI double from Bailey Simone in the top of the 4th inning to even the score at 2-2.
The Lady Colonels then turned to the long ball to take control of the game in the bottom of the 5th inning. Emmy Blane crushed a solo home run to left, and Hope Jones took a two run shot out of the park to right, to put Christian County up 5-2 after five innings.
Christian County would add an insurance run in the bottom of the 6th inning on an RBI single from Pickle Winkler to push the lead out to 6-2.
For the game, Hope Jones led the way, going 2-3, with a home run, 3 RBIs, and a run scored. Pickle Winkler and Emmy Blane were each 1-3, with an RBI, and a run scored.
In the circle, Riley Hancock went 3 2/3, giving up 2 runs on five hits, striking out two and walking none. Hannah Sumner then pitched the final 3 1/3 innings, giving up no runs on one hit, striking out one and walking one.
