
The Caldwell County Lady Tigers used a three run rally in the top of the 7th inning to break open a tie game and pick up their first win of the season Saturday, as they defeated Owensboro Catholic 6-4 at Christian County High School. The Lady Tiger rally came after Catholic had battled back to tie the game in bottom of the 5th inning.
The Lady Tigers got on top of the Lady Aces with a three run 2nd inning. Singles from Haley Stiles and Mashea Glover were followed by a three run blast from Emma Staples that put Caldwell County up by a score of 3-0.
The game stayed at 3-0 until the bottom of the 4th inning, when the Lady Aces took advantage of a Caldwell County miscue to cut the lead to 3-1.
Owensboro Catholic then tied the game up in the bottom of the 5th inning. Danielle Henning led the inning off with a single. One out later, Isabella Henning knocked one out of the park to even things up at 3-3.
In the top of the 7th, Emma Staples and Mashea Glover both walked. Then with two outs, Madi Choate connected for an RBI single. Allie Felker followed that with an RBI single of her own. The rally was capped off with an RBI single from Haley Stiles, as Caldwell County took a 6-3 lead into the bottom of the 7th.
Katie Franklin got the first two batters out in the bottom of the inning, before giving up a solo home run to Isabella Henninng. Franklin then got the next batter to ground out and end the game.
Haley Stiles was 2-4 for Caldwell County with an RBI and a run scored. Emma Staples was 1-3 with a home run and 3 RBIs.
In the circle, Katie Franklin went all seven innings, giving up 4 runs, three of them earned, on six hits, striking out five, while walking only one.
