University Heights Academy’s Kyky Tandy was named First Team All-State by the Lexington Herald-Leader Wednesday, while Madisonville junior Kenny White was named to the Second Team.
Tandy finished his high school career as the second-leading scorer in Second Region history and in the top ten statewide. He scored 26.5 points a game while shooting 48-percent from the field and 37-percet from 3-point range.
He was named the KABC region player of the year and was a finalist for Mr. Basketball. Tandy was also named the All-A Classic MVP in helping lead the Blazers to the small school state title.
Tandy finished second to Trinity’s David Johnson in player of the year voting statewide.
White was named to the Second Team by the coaches after averaging 14.2 points and 8.4 rebounds in helping lead the Maroons to their first region title in 18 years. White was named to the All-Region and All-State Tournament Team.
Also named to the Second Team was McCracken County junior Jackson Sivills. Mayfield’s Connor Guthrie was named to the Third Team. No First or Second Region players were named Honorable Mention in voting where just 78 coaches statewide returned a ballot.
