Franklin-Simpson took advantage of some shaky Christian County defense to hand the Colonels a 6-2 loss Monday in the season-opener for both teams.
The Wildcats scored three unearned runs in the contest and used two errors, a steal of home, and a passed ball to plate four runs in the third inning.
Hunter Crafton doubled and scored on a sacrifice fly in the second inning to give Franklin-Simpson, who was 25-12 a year ago, an early 1-0 lead.
Christian County tied the score in the third when Austin Fields singled, stole second, and scored on an error.
Franklin-Simpson scored four in the third with just one ball hit out of the infield.
Eric Silvy doubled in the fifth and later scored on one of two Wildcat errors.
Christian County was tagged with three errors in the loss.
Silvy started on the mound, giving up six runs and eight hits in four-plus innings. Three of the runs were unearned, and he struck out five. He also banged out two of Christian County’s seven hits, with Dorian Lones also adding a double at the plate.
Dalton Fiveash had three of Franklin-Simpson’s eight hits in the contest, including a triple.
Christian County will host University Heights in an Eighth District contest Thursday at Colonel Field.
