UK Players Thinking Travis Will Return Sooner than Later

John Calipari won’t have any updates about whether Reid Travis will or will not play in Friday’s Southeastern Conference Tournament quarterfinals when UK takes on the Alabama-Mississippi winner. However, Travis’ teammates certainly sounded optimistic that he would be back on the court after missing the last five games with a sprained knee.

Freshman guard Ashton Hagans said Tuesday that Travis worked out Monday and “was looking real good” doing it.

“Trying to get his groove back,” Hagans said.

Freshman Tyler Herro said that Travis also looked good and did just about everything during the workout from “running up and down, layup drills, stuff like that.” Herro said he was getting in reps.

Calipari said Monday that if Travis does play in the SEC tourney, it will only be for short spurts.

“I don’t think we’ll miss a beat. I think we’ll be fine whenever he comes back,” freshman Keldon Johnson said.

“I think he’s going to fit right back in. He was injured, but he was still getting workouts in and stuff like that. I think he’ll fit right in, as he was early in the season, and we’re excited to eventually have him back,” Herro said.

PJ Washington certainly is looking forward to having Travis back.

“Not a lot of teams can double (team) us because we definitely have another post player who can really score the ball,” Washington said Tuesday. “It’s going to be harder for teams to guard us. He’s great on the defensive end. He always knows what we’re in, he’s vocal and he’s a leader.”
