After last season concluded with a loss in the championship game, a motivated Heritage Christian Lady Warrior team was prepared for their return to the big dance.
On Thursday night, the fifth-seeded Lady Warriors were considered as the “underdog” against the fourth-seeded North Hardin. However, the game’s outcome said otherwise. Sophomore guard Kinley Deason swished a pull-up three as time expired, advancing the Warriors past North Hardin by a score of 20-18.
Throughout the defensive battle, Heritage clung to a slight 4-2 lead after the first period. In the second quarter, senior forward Chelsea Dortch scored each one of her team’s seven points as Heritage Christian managed to pull away with a 11-6 halftime lead.
However, a 8-1 third quarter in favor of North Hardin made things interesting going into the final minutes of regulation.
As it looked like North Hardin was pulling away, Deason wouldn’t have any part of it. The sophomore guard poured in eight of her 11 points in the final period, leading the Lady Warriors to victory.
Dortch finished the contest with nine points, as the tandem combined for all of Heritage Christian’s offense.
On Saturday, Heritage Christian will face top-seeded Oak Ridge at 9 A.M. EDT for the right to play in the KCAA championship game.
