Madisonville-North Hopkins didn’t leave many openings for any upset plans Lyon County may have had.
A strong second quarter helped the Maroons open up a 44-18 lead at halftime, and they went on to rout the Lyons 80-47 Monday night in Madisonville.
Playing in front of University of Evansville head coach and former Kentucky star Walter McCarty, the Maroons (22-5) had a running clock by the end of the third period, carrying a 66-30 advantage to the final 8 minutes.
McCarty has already offered Madisonville seniors Ksuan Casey and Kenny White.
The Maroons got balanced scoring against the Lyons. J.D. Gilbert led the way with 15 points while Casey had 12. Cade Cunningham finished with 10 points while White tallied nine and Deljuan Johnson had eight.
Lyon tried to make a game of things early after falling behind by double digits. A 3-pointer by Gabe Board had the Lyons as close as 16-11 late in the first quarter.
But Madisonville went up 20-11 after one stanza, then outscored the Lyons 24-7 in the second quarter to take control.
Travis Perry led Lyon with nine points. Board finished with seven and Brady Shoulders hit a pair of 3-pointers for six points.
The Lyons (17-9) will hit the road again on Tuesday when they play at Paducah St. Mary.
Madisonville is also in action on Tuesday, traveling to Owensboro Apollo.
