One new face inches their way into this week’s YSE Boys 2nd Region Super 7. Otherwise, not much changes in the rankings. UHA still holds off Madisonville for the #1 spot, but that is a narrow margin at the moment, as the Maroons appear to be the hottest team in the region. Believe it or not, the postseason begins three weeks from Monday.
1. UHA (17-3) – The Blazers could make a statement with a deep run in the All A Classic in Richmond. Key district games against Christian County and Hoptown are coming up in early February. Getting that top seed in the 8th District is a big bonus, as the 2-3 game in that tournament is going to knock out one pretty good team.
2. Madisonville (14-5) – The Maroons have now won their last seven games in a row, and are positioned to possibly run the table through the rest of the regular season. That would make them a very talented team with a great deal of momentum headed into tournament play.
3. Hopkinsville (12-9) – The Tigers had one get away from them at Graves County to end their four game winning streak. Coming up over the next couple of weeks they have a run that will test their metal headed into the postseason against Henderson, UHA, and Christian.
4. Christian County (11-11) – The southern Colonels won their final two games at the Toyota Classic at Scott County. This is a team that has their moments, but has also had some games that turned out to be some of “those moments.” Which makes them a scary proposition in the postseason. A tough first game for either UHA or Hoptown in the 8th District tournament.
5. Henderson County (10-8) – Mother Nature was the winner this week over the Henderson County Colonels. The northern Colonels have not played since last week’s rankings, so no change for the time being. A big one Friday night against Webster County.
6. Lyon County (13-7) – The Lyons got their shot at UHA in the 2nd Region All A semifinals and found that they still have some work to do to contend with the guys at the top of the 2nd Region. Still a team that on a given night that could pull off a shocker in the region tournament.
7. Webster County (12-8) – The Trojans sneak into the Super 7 this week, just barely edging out Caldwell County. The edge for the Trojans comes based on the most recent meeting between the two teams, which Webster County took in the Class 2A championships. They could easily change spots again next week.
