Caldwell County’s girls tried to put a scare into Calloway County on Monday, but the visiting Lady Lakers left Princeton with a 56-47 victory to improve to 15-4 on the season.

The Lady Tigers battled Calloway to a 22-22 deadlock at halftime, but couldn’t match baskets with the taller Lady Lakers in the second half.

Calloway scored the first five points of the second half and went on to build a 38-29 lead through three quarters.

Caldwell was still within shouting distance when Jada Boyd nailed a 3-pointer with 3:52 to play. That made it a nine-point game again at 45-36. But the Lady Tigers could get no closer.

Charlee Settle led a balanced offensive effort for Calloway with 17 points. Elle Carson added 14, Keeli Puckett had 13 and Kelly Underhill finished with 10 points.

Bella McConnell topped all scorers with 21 points for the Lady Tigers. Boyd added 12 and Jacey Jaggers had seven points for Caldwell.

It was the fourth-straight loss for the Lady Tigers — albeit against a stiff slate. Caldwell’s girls are now 7-10 on the season.

The Lady Tigers will get some time to regroup. Caldwell’s next game is not until next Tuesday as part of a girls and boys doubleheader at Trigg County.

A date at Fort Campbell that was originally on Caldwell’s schedule for Saturday has been canceled.
