The Christian County girls’ basketball team used a big third-quarter run to pull away from UHA on Monday, going on to win 54-31. The Lady Colonels win their second-straight and third in four tries to improve to 9-6 overall, 2-0 in 8th District play. The Lady Blazers drop their second in three outings to slip to 9-5, 1-2 in the district.
The first quarter was low scoring, but Christian County closed with a 5-1 spurt for a 10-5 advantage.
The Lady Colonels led by 6, before Lily Hendricks scored 5 of her 6 second-quarter points to pull the Lady Blazers to within 1. Christian County’s Kinara Phillips scored, followed by Hendricks and Aaliyah Hampton trading free throws, and the Lady Colonels led 20-17 at the halftime break.
Aisha Pantiere scored off an assist from Alex Juckett to tie the game 22-22 just a minute and a half into the third, prompting the decisive response from the Lady Colonels. Hampton poured in 7 and Trinity McGee added 5 in a 14-0 run that gave the Lady Colonels a 36-22 advantage. Hampton got a steal and scored to stretch the lead to 17 with 30 seconds left in the third, before Hendricks beat the buzzer with a layup at the other end for a 41-26 score.
The Lady Blazers only managed 5 fourth-quarter points, and the Lady Colonels built a 20-point edge on a Talitha Bryant bucket with 4:16 to play. Bianna Snorton’s free throws with just under a minute to play were the last points of Christian County’s 23-point victory.
Hampton led all scorers with 21, with the Lady Colonels’ Trinity and Eniya McGee both finishing with 8.
Hendricks was the only Lady Blazer in double figures with 16, followed by Pantiere with 5 and Juckett with 4.
