Lyon County’s Allison Murphy scored 21 points on Friday night, but Crittenden County’s Shelby Summers matched her and the Lady Rockets held on to beat the Lady Lyons 53-50 in Eddyville. Lyon County has a 2-game winning streak snapped to slip to 6-7 overall, 3-2 in 5th District play. Crittenden wins its second-straight to improve to 7-5, tops in the district at 3-1.
Missed layups plagued the Lady Lyons in the opening quarter, and Shelby Summers scored 9 points to help Crittenden to a 15-8 lead.
Calista Collins scored down low to pull Lyon County within 3 with 2:23 left in the half. Nahla Woodward knocked down her second 3-pointer of the quarter to stretch the Lady Rocket lead to 8, but Kenttavia Matthews completed a 3-point play with :15 seconds left to trim the lead to 28-23 at the half.
Murphy scored on a layup and had to leave the game with a bloody nose with the Lady Lyons down 3. When she returned, she immediately scored on consecutive drives to the basket, followed by a putback bucket from Lydia P’Poole for Lyon’s first lead at 40-39.
Lyon County built the lead to 4 on three occasions over the final 8 minutes, but after consecutive baskets by Summers, the Lady Rockets retook the lead at 51-49 with a minute to go. Down 3 with inside of 10 seconds to play, Murphy’s layup rolled off and Crittenden knocked the ball out of bounds. With :1.8 on the clock and needing a 3 to tie, an errant inbounds pass went into the back court and the Lady Lyons ran out of time.
Murphy posted a double-double with 10 rebounds to go with her 21 points. Smith had 8 and 4 rebounds, while Collins finished with 6 and 6.
Summers was joined in double figures for the Lady Rockets by Woodward with 13 points and 7 boards, and Taylor Guess with 11 points.
