
Lyon County won its second-straight and fourth in five outings with a 62-49 victory over visiting Crittenden County on Homecoming night in Eddyville. The Lyons move to 4-0 in 5th District play and improve to 10-6 overall, while the Rockets remain winless in their four district contests and slip to 4-10 overall.
Gabe Board scored 5 first-quarter points, including a 3-pointer and a lay-in off an assist from Travis Perry, to give the Lyons a 16-12 lead with a minute to go in the first quarter. However, the Rockets closed with 5-straight to take a 1-point lead.
Jackson Shoulders scored 5-straight and Kade Blackburn knocked down a 3-pointer to force a Crittenden County timeout down 27-21. The Rockets answered with 10 in a row, including three-straight steal and scores, to surge to a 21-27 advantage. Perry nailed a 3, before Nick Whalin beat the buzzer with a putback on the second of two Blackburn free throws for a 2-point halftime lead.
Perry began the second half with consecutive 3-pointers, and the Rockets took a timeout down 8. After falling down 15, the Rockets clawed their way back and trimmed the lead back to 8 after a Hunter Boone 3 with just over a minute left in the third. The Lyons would beat the buzzer again, as Perry drained a step-back 3 for a 13-point edge.
Lyon County maintained a double-digit lead throughout the final quarter, with Crittenden getting within 10 on back-to-back 3-pointers at 59-49 with 4:30 to play. The Lyons would hold the Rockets scoreless the rest of the way to seal the 13-point victory.
Perry’s 19 led the Lyons, followed by Shoulders with 17. Board finished with 10 and 5 assists, while Blackburn posted 10 and 7 assists. Gabe DeFew led the team with 9 rebounds, with Shoulders collecting 8.
Boone finished with 19 for Crittenden County, followed by Preston Turley with 17.
