Five Tigers scored in double figures and Caldwell County shot 63.5 percent from the field in a 92-53 victory over Dawson Springs in 7th District action Friday night in Princeton.

Caldwell put up 85 points through three quarters. A running clock in the fourth quarter was about the only thing that slowed down the Tigers’ scoring, keeping Caldwell from making a run at the century mark.

Derrin Boyd had 19 points and eight assists while Cayden Fraliex scored 17 points and grabbed eight rebounds as Caldwell improved to 10-4 on the season and 1-0 in district play.

Tripp Branch added 13 points. Cole Smiley had a double-double with 12 points and 12 boards. Adarius Riley tallied 10 points for the Tigers.

Dawson, now 5-8 and 0-2, hit five 3-pointers in the opening quarter but still couldn’t stop Caldwell from opening up a 31-19 lead after one stanza.

The Tigers led by as much as 24 points in the second quarter before getting to halftime with a 54-35 advantage.

Caldwell opened the second half with a 16-3 run, going up 70-38 midway through the third quarter on a Boyd basket from in close.

The Tigers took an 85-50 lead to the final quarter, reaching the 35-point mercy rule for a running clock in the last 8 minutes.

Caldwell made 33 of 52 field goal attempts in the contest, including 5 of 11 from 3-point range.

For Dawson, Skyler Clark buried six 3-pointers and finished with a game-high 21 points. Landon Pace added 10 points for the Panthers.

Caldwell has a big week ahead, visiting 7th District favorite Madisonville-North Hopkins on Tuesday then going to Webster County on Thursday for a second round matchup in the Kentucky 2A Championships.
