The Hopkinsville Lady Tigers responded to a tough loss to Graves County Thursday night by holding off Breckinridge County Friday afternoon in the final game of pool play of the FNB Holiday Bash at South Warren. Hopkinsville picked up the win by the score of 64-57.
Hoptown seemed to have things going its way early. Behind some early long range shooting, the Lady Tigers moved out to an 18-12 lead after the opening quarter.
As Hopkinsville has seen happen a few times this season, the Lady Tigers seemed to lose their shooting eye for a long stretch of the 2nd quarter. Breckinridge County’s defense limited Hopkinsville to just five points in the second quarter, as the White and Maroon clad Lady Tigers moved to the front and took a 26-23 lead into the locker room at the half.
The two teams traded the lead back and forth in the first half of the 3rd quarter. Hopkinsville then got some key long range shots to fall and grabbed the lead back, ending the third quarter up 46-40.
Down the stretch, Hopkinsville was able to make key shots and get the defensive stops they needed to hold on for the seven point win.
Breon Oldham and Yogi McKnight each scored 20 points for Hoptown. All 20 of McKnight’s points came in the second half of play. Areonna Day added 12 for the Lady Tigers.
The Hopkinsville Lady Tigers, who improve to 11-5 on the season, finish pool play in the tournament at 2-1.
