A tough loss for the Hopkinsville Lady Tigers in their second game of the day Friday at the FNB Holiday Bash at South Warren. In back-and-forth battle that came down to the final moments, the Lady Tigers dropped a tough 53-48 decision to the Graves County Lady Eagles in the second game of pool play in the tournament.

Early on it looked as if Graves County might win comfortably. With a strong finish to the 1st quarter, the Lady Eagles took a 15-9 lead after the opening period.

As has often been the case this season, Hopkinsville’s defense told the story in the second quarter. The Lady Tigers tightened up on the Lady Eagles, limiting Graves County to just 8 points in the second quarter, as the two teams went into the locker rooms tied at 23-23.

Hopkinsville and Graves County each had some time in the lead during the 3rd quarter. The Lady Eagles were able to hold theirs a bit longer and lead the game 37-34 entering the 4th quarter.

The game stayed tight throughout the final quarter. However, Graves County was able to keep the Lady Tigers at arms length most of the final 8 minutes. The Lady Eagles turned back some late game opportunities for Hopkinsville to hold on for the five point win.

Yogi McKnight and Jayla Rose each had 14 for Hoptown. Rose scored ten of her 14 in the final quarter. Breon Oldham added 12.

Graves County was led by Sophie Galloway with 15 points.

Hopkinsville goes to 10-5 on the season, and 1-1 in pool play in the tournament. The Lady Tigers conclude pool play Friday afternoon at 2:30 against Breckinridge County.
