Christian County will face off against one of the top basketball teams in Arkansas when they begin play at the 32nd Annual Poplar Bluff Showdown Thursday.
Fayetteville is off to a 7-2 start. The Bulldogs advanced to the Arkansas Class 7A state semifinals last year and feature Central Arkansas signee Collin Cooper, a 6-foot-2 guard.
Christian County (5-5) won two of three games at the Pop’s Chevy Classic in Floyd County last week, with Stephon Bussell continuing his strong play of late. Bussell scored 24 points in the Colonels’ 80-57 win over Nelson County in the final game of the event.
The Colonels will face host Poplar Bluff (6-1) or Memphis Central (4-4) Friday night depending on their Thursday outcome.
It’s the second straight year the Colonels have made the trip to Poplar Bluff. They were 1-2 there last year.
