One bad quarter ended up being the undoing Sunday evening for the Madisonville Maroons in the 5th place game of the Chad Gardner Law King of the Bluegrass. Brentwood Academy, after shooting less than 30-percent in the first half, heated up coming out of the locker room at halftime and picked up a 72-57 win.

Madisonville had the better shooting eye in the first half, connecting on 48 percent from the field, while Brentwood could only hit 26.1 percent of their shots. However, the Maroons were unable to put any distance between the top teams in the first half. The Maroons and the Eagles battled to a 14-14 tie through the opening quarter.

In the second, the Maroons were able to get a little bit of a lead. As they went to the break, Madisonville had inched its way out to a 31-28 lead. Then came the quarter that determined the game.

Playing their 4th game in as many days, and coming off two big 2nd Region games in the days leading up to the KOB, you have to wonder if the Maroons might have gotten a little leg weary. Brentwood outscored Madisonville 27-9 in the third quarter to take control of the game and put it away, as the teams headed for the 4th quarter with the Eagles up 55-40.

Brentwood was then able to hold off the Maroons in the final quarter and pick up the win.

Ksuan Casey had 19 to lead the Madisonville attack. Kenny White was the only other Maroon to reach double figures with 12.

Randy Brady had 32, including 15 of 16 at the line to lead Brentwood Academy.
