
The Caldwell County Tigers saw their five game winning streak come to an end Thursday in their opening game of the Limestone Bank Christmas Classic at Butler County High School. Logan County used a big 4th quarter to take control of a close game and pick up the 77-64 win.
The Cougars success was due in big part to containing Caldwell senior Derrin Boyd, who still managed 15 points in the game. However, the Cougars held Boyd to just one field goal in the second half of th game.
The two teams battled to a 14-14 tie after one quarter. The Tigers looked to have the advantage going to the locker room at the half, as they pulled out to a 36-31 lead over the Cougars. Cayden Fraliex had a big second quarter for Caldwell County with seven points.
Logan County’s defense was the story in the 3rd quarter, as the Cougars limited the Tigers to 11 points in the quarter. Headed into the 4th quarter, Logan County had moved back in front 49-47.
The Cougars’ offense then put the pedal to the metal and rang up 28 points in the final quarter to pull away for the 13 point win.
Cayden Fraliex led Caldwell County with 17 points, while Derrin Boyd added 15. Cole Smiley and Adarius Riley had nine points each.
Logan County was paced by Kelby Epley with 20. Tommy Krohn added 19.
The loss drops Caldwell County to 5-3, while Logan County improves to 8-1.
