A swarming UHA defense and a frigid night from the floor by Lyon County sent the Lady Blazers to a 51-30 victory over the visiting Lady Lyons. UHA has won 4-straight by an average of 28.5 points to improve to 8-3 on the year. Lyon County has dropped 3 of 4 and falls below .500 for the first time this season at 4-5.
Both teams started slowly, with a basket by Alex Juckett giving the Lady Blazers a 9-4 lead with :36 left in the quarter. Cathryn Brown scored 2 of her team-leading 5 on a layup just before the buzzer, and the Lady Lyons trailed 9-6.
Ashlyn Doom scored to open the second quarter and pull Lyon County to within 1, but Juckett and Lily Hendricks scored 11 of UHA’s 13 points for a 22-13 advantage at halftime. The Lady Lyons went 1 for 6 from the free throw line, while the Lady Blazers hit 10-15.
Allison Murphy hit 2 free throws :30 into the second half, but the Lady Lyons wouldn’t score again until a 3-pointer with less than 2:00 left in the quarter made the score 33-18. Hendricks connected on a runner in the final seconds, and UHA enjoyed a 17-point cushion.
Two Juckett free throws with 4:30 to play, part of her 6-point quarter, pushed the margin past 20 at 41-20. Murphy, the Lady Lyons’ leading scorer at over 16 a game, fouled out with only 4 points with 3:00 left, and the Lady Blazers cruised to the 21-point win.
Juckett’s 19 led all scorers, followed by Hendricks with 14 points and 8 rebounds for UHA. Meghan Adams pulled down 10 rebounds to go with 7 points.
Brown led Lyon County with 5, with Doom and Abbi Crawford each scoring 4. Calista Collins had 8 rebounds, and Murphy finished with 7.
