Trigg County found themselves down at halftime of both their games Thursday at the KME Christmas Classic at Wildcat Gym. They climbed out of one hole but not two as they split their contests.
In the opener, Trigg County used an 18-4 third quarter run to erase a nine-point Hickman County halftime lead and beat the Falcons 50-38. Trigg hit 7-of-10 from the field in the third quarter and forced 10 Falcon turnovers in turning their fortunes around.
For the game, Trigg scored 19 points off 18 Hickman turnovers and outrebounded the Falcons 38-22.
Jakobe Bridges paced two Wildcats in double figures with 13 points. Kyron Grubbs scored all 11 of his points in the second half and added six rebounds and six steals in being named the player of the game.
Kendric Adams had nine points and seven rebounds, and Gavin Grubbs also scored nine points.
Hickman County got 11 points from Jackson Midyett.
In the nightcap, St. Mary used a 9-0 first quarter run to assert control of their game with the Wildcats and win 56-50. It was the third game in four where Trigg has scored exactly 50 points.
St. Mary hit 13-of-23 shots in the first half in building a 30-23 lead. They opened the second half on a 9-0 run to build their largest lead of the game at 39-23.
Trailing 44-33 after three quarters, Trigg slowly chipped away at the Viking lead. Trigg used a 12-2 run to get to within 55-50 with 30 seconds left but missed their final two shots.
Kendric Adams was the lone Wildcat in double figures with 13 points and eight rebounds. Gavin Grubbs and Hayden Cunningham each scored nine points, part of Trigg’s 22-point production from the bench.
Max Lafont scored 20 point for St. Mary (5-4), while Billy Johnson added 14 point and nine rebounds. The Vikings shot 60-percent from the field for the game.
Trigg County (5-5) will play Hickman County (4-7) in the third place game Friday at 1:45.
St. Mary will play Adair County in the championship at 3pm.
