After suffering its most lopsided loss of the season 71-49 against Sacred Heart on Wednesday, the Christian County girls’ basketball team got back to winning ways with a 54-41 victory over Central on Thursday. Both games were a part of the Queen of the Commonwealth tournament at Bullitt East, which will continue on Friday when the Lady Colonels have a rematch with Muhlenberg County (6-2). The Lady Mustangs beat Christian County 63-53 in Hopkinsville on the opening night of the season.
The Lady Colonels jumped out to a double-digit lead on the Yellow Jackets, and were on top 17-7 after the first quarter. Central trimmed a couple of points off the lead in the second quarter, outscoring the Lady Colonels 14-12 for a 29-21 halftime score. Christian County stretched the advantage to 12 after the third quarter, and the Lady Colonels went on to win by 13.
Aaliyah Hampton scored 23 for the Lady Colonels to lead all scorers, joined in double figures by Kinara Phillips with 11. Hampton had 6 rebounds and went 11-14 from the free throw line, while Phillips collected 8 boards. Talitha Bryant scored 7 points and pulled down 6 rebounds.
Aurianna Burnett and Taylor Price each scored 9 for Central, with Price also collecting 6 rebounds.
