We have seen some big battles across the region this week, and nearly saw a bunch of shuffling in this week’s Super 7. Note, I said nearly. When all was said and done, there was a little movement, but not the massive overhaul we were just a few points away from seeing this week. If things keep up like this all season long, the postseason promises to be a bunch of fun.
1. UHA (7-0) – The Blazers survived a huge test from the Maroons, a game Madisonville must feel like it let get away. UHA heads off to the Chad Gardner Law King of the Bluegrass, and gets Lexington Christian in its first game, with the Blazers feeling like they have something to prove against LCA.
2. Madisonville (5-2) – The Maroons has the game in their hands. A double digit lead on UHA’s home court. Then KyKy Tandy took over and the Blazers won what could be a regional final preview. Madisonville then had to pull off a comeback of their own to beat Christan County in OT. The Maroons are also headed to Fairdale for the KOB.
3. Hopkinsville (5-2) – The Tigers easily handled Hopkins Central going into the holiday tournament season. The Owensboro Invitational and the Machens Great 8 Classic are ahead. Mark your calendar for January 3, when the Tigers will host Madisonville in what ought to be a dandy.
4. Christian County (3-4) – The Colonels had Madisonville on the ropes Tuesday night, and then one get away. Their record is no indicator of how good this team is at this point, or how good it might be by the end of the season. They will get a chance to see how much they have improved January 3, when they take on McCracken County for the 2nd time.
5. Caldwell County (5-2) – After an 0-2 start, the Tigers appear to be one of those teams, you just don’t wanna play on any given night. The win over Tilghman, who beat Hopkinsville earlier in the season, is an attention grabber. And, a road win at Muhlenberg is never something to overlook. Those are enough to move them up this week.
6. Henderson County (6-1) – While the scoreboard shows an 8 point loss to Christian County, the game was not really that close. This is still a team that is hard to get a feel for, as they have only played two games against teams out of the 2nd Region.
7. Lyon County (6-5) – The Lyons have done fairly well with Gabe Board out of the lineup. But, to be a threat in the All A and in the 2nd Region, they will need his leadership back on the court. A loss to McCracken is nothing to be ashamed of, however, the loss to Carlisle is exactly the kind of game where Board makes a difference.
