The KME Classic at Trigg County High School this week will be a homecoming of sorts for a pair of visiting coaches.

Play begins in the six-team event Thursday morning at 11 and will continue through Friday afternoon with each team playing three games over the two days.

In the first game of the day, St. Mary (3-4) will play Houston County, Tenn. (0-9) at 11am. Both teams are making a return visit to Wildcat Gym after playing in the event last year.

At 12:45, host Trigg County (4-4) will play Hickman County (3-6). The Falcons are coached by Wynn Harris, who returns to Wildcat Gym as a coach for the first time since leading the Lady Wildcats to a 37-66 record in four seasons as head coach from 2000-04.

He later coached two seasons at Garrard County as their girls’ head coach before becoming an assistant coach with the boys’ program. He most recently coached at Summit Christian Academy in Lexington.

At 2:30, Adair County (3-4) will play Piggott, Arkansas (1-10). Piggott is coached by Crittenden County alum Chris Brantley. The school is located in northeast Arkansas, bordering the Missouri bootheel and competes in Class 3A. Brantley was an all-district player for the Rockets in 1996 and is now a pastor in addition to his coaching duties.

Adair County has the best resume of any of the teams in the field, losing to Paducah Tilghman by eight points and to a 9-1 Taylor County team by two points.

Play continues Friday with the fifth place game (noon), third place game (1:45), and championship game (3:30).
